The Collected Works of Ambrose Bierce
BIERCE, Ambrose

New York & Washington: The Neale Publishing Company, 1909-1912. Twelve volumes. Brown cloth-backed boards, paper spine labels. Paginated variously. Krick 34. Variant bindings not noted in Krick. Bookplates on the front paste-down of each volume; else very good. [99007] (show more)

Price: $495.00

These would appear to be in remainder bindings which are less elaborate than those noted in Krick. Four of the volumes state that they were from the issue of 250 numbered & signed copies, although they are neither numbered nor signed. This would seem to indicate that this set was assembled from leftover volumes on hand.

SPEERS, Mary

Preface by H. K. Bonaparta, Ph.C. Hollywood, Calif.: Murray & Gee, 1942. Small 8vo. Blue cloth, stamped in gilt. 366 p. 1st edition. Grier p. 144. INSCRIBED to "dear Mother & Dad," SIGNED & dated Hollywood, Calif, April 18, 1942. Minor wear at extremities, spine leaning a bit; else very good. Scarce. [94456] (show more)

Price: $350.00

Novel set in various California locales which revolves around a set of characters most of whom are gay males or Lesbians. The behavior of all of the characters, whether gay or straight, are, as the title might suggest, determined by sexual urges. Indeed, it would appear that to Speers sexuality is the motive force of history. From the classification given this book by Grier - A (T?) - it seems unlikely that she or her collaborators ever really examined this book.
