Sonnets to Craig

Intro. by Upton Sinclair. New York: Albert & Charles Boni, 1928. 12mo. Cloth. 120 p. 1st ed. Mattila A33b. Ahouse C4. Name on endpaper; else very good. [50422]

Sonnets written to Mary Craig, future wife of Upton Sinclair. Sinclair frequently had editions issued under his own imprint of his later trade-published books. They have generally been regarded as being published simultaneously with the trade editions. In this instance Ahouse states that there is "no priority" while Cecil Johnson in his 1931 bibliography of Sterling asserts on the authority of Sinclair himself that the "two editions were published simultaneously, both in theory and in fact." Mattilla, however, states that the Sinclair edition was issued first, basing this conclusion on the fact that the earliest reviews were of that edition.
