For Peace and Friendship: Poems

Preface by Sydney Realist Writers. Foreword by Archer Russell. No information given (issued in 1952). Wraps. 30 p. 1st ed. [29876]

Adamson was born, according to the preface, the "son of a miner, on the Star of Peace Tin Mine at Ringarooma, Tasmania, in 1884... He died in Sydney Domain on Sunday, November 4th, 1951, while addressing a public gathering on 'friendship with the U.S.S.R.' during the celebrations for the 34th anniversary of the Russian revolution." According to Russell he was "one of the most fearless writers Australia has yet produced... The minds of succeeding generations (the posterity of the Socialist State-to-be) will give Bartlett Adamson a higher place in the cultural history of this country than the Capitalist State ever gave him." Included in this memorial volume are "Comrades All," "Strike for Indonesian Freedom," "Labor Renegade," "May Day Banners," "Workers of the World," "Exile Song," "We, the Workers of Australia," etc.
